Hogan Junction - Fascia
Prior to adding the fascia, I hooked up the power pack and tested the track. Everything worked perfectly on the first try, except for the semaphore. The semaphore required some toubleshooting, as it is a three-phase device with special activation requirements.

In retrospect, this project may have been faster and easier if we had used MTH track with built in roadbed and accessory activation devices.... but we had a lot of Lionel track already and it's good to have to learn new things. So with the help of a Greenberg's wiring book I solved the semaphore problem. Once all the electronics were working, the fascia could be added without worrying about bumping my head.

The fascia is attached with liquid nails and screws. You can see in the photo to the right that the Side A fascia is already attached, and the Side B fascia is about to be mounted. I ran a bead of Liquid Nails in a diagonal pattern along the edge of the styrofoam, then I just drilled pilot holes through the fascia and into the edge of the benchwork pieces for the mounting screws.

I also drilled holes for controls at the far end of the layout to accommodate toggle switches and connection wires. Then I started painting everything a midnight blue. The blue matches the background on my Annie display cabinet, as well as the felt on our pool table. I will use the same paint for the fascia on my next project, which will be a small N Scale layout mounted to the far wall of the basement, just to the left of the O-27 layout.
