Hogan Junction - Details
After all of the roadbed was installed, the location for each feeder wire was marked and drilled through the roadbed and foam. You will note in the photos that several wires poke out from under the board as it sits on the floor, and these are connected to the appropriate track or accessory item.

With the wires soldered to the track, and the track put into place we decided it was time to test-fit the buildings.

When the locations were confirmed and a few train cars were hand-pushed along the tracks in order to check clearances, we traced around the outline of the structures.

We then removed the buildings and started on some basic scenery. This was VERY simple and easy. We just painted the styrofoam in a tan earth-tone, and immediately sprinkled Woodland Scenics "grass" into the wet paint.

As more ties and ballast will be added, along with rocks and trees at a later date, the goal was to get as much done with the board on the floor as possible. Once we got the board on the benchwork, reaching the back would be quite a stretch - physically possible, but still a stretch. So the secret is to get a lot done while you can still move around the layout 360 degrees.
