You've seen the
design, but what you may not realize is that the design request came in
via e-mail from a hobbyist who had visited modelrailweb and was at his
wits end in trying to come up with a layout solution that met his needs.
We agreed to work together and use this layout as a "pilot"
program to see how my design services would work via Internet
communications: all drawings were scanned and e-mailed until the final
draft.
Our first draft was close to the mark and resulted in identifying
operational opportunities. The second draft addressed the operational
opportunities but lost a little of the visual impact of the layout, but
the THIRD time was the winner you saw on the cape cod northern
design
page. A large, detailed sketch complete with elevations, construction
notes, operational ideas and room dimensions was meticulously drafted by
hand and forwarded to the layout builder via US Mail.
We also collaborated on the benchwork design to ensure that all the
supports would be sufficiently placed to provide strength and
accessibility for the layout. Here are some early pictures of the layout
project.
For continuing progress and layout photos, please follow the links
included at the bottom of the page - all subsequent Cape Cod Northern
pages will have links at the bottom of each page, so that visitors can
jump from section to section at their convenience. Please enjoy this great
layout story! |
