Colorado Eastern - Track Plan
I promised modest and simple and here it is: the layout is a "bent dogbone" loop-style track plan that provides a continuous run for my narrow gauge G Scale train to pass through some interesting scenes - just like the Durango & Silverton, but not quite as spectacular.

The design incorporates standard sized lumber at lengths intentionally set to make the number of cuts minimal. Each back side leg is a 10' section, with each end corner piece using 2.5' sections. The back center and front sides are 5' long and the two front pieces are just 2' long. Therefore, if you buy 10' lumber, there are no cuts for the back, and then you either cut the remaining boards in half or in quarters. The layout is designed to be approximately 2' tall, so each side will take 4 planks - more on dimensions and cutting coming up in the supplies segment later......

The front features a trestle that spans an open area where the landscape from the garden railroad will slope down and blend into the landscape of the perennial garden.
